An AI model running without internet is completely air-gapped from external services. No data can leave your machine during AI processing. This is the highest level of AI privacy available — and Docker Model Runner with OpenClaw makes it practical.
OpenClaw is the open-source personal AI assistant that went viral in early 2026 with 200K+ GitHub stars. It runs on your own devices and connects to WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack and more. No subscription. No data leaving your machine.
Docker Model Runner is Docker's native feature for running large language models locally on your machine. It gives you an OpenAI-compatible API that OpenClaw uses as its AI brain — complete data privacy, no cloud costs.
OpenClaw gives you the assistant interface and messaging integrations. Docker Model Runner gives you the AI brain running privately on your machine. Together they create a production grade private AI assistant you fully own.
Setting this up from scattered documentation takes days of debugging. This live workshop gives you a complete guided build in 4 hours with a live instructor answering your questions. Packt has delivered 108 workshops worldwide.
Six modules covering offline AI setup from model download to fully local deployment.
Understand the Gateway, channels, and skills architecture. Set up and configure OpenClaw locally from scratch.
Run and manage local LLMs using Docker Model Runner. Pull models, configure memory, and understand the OpenAI-compatible API.
Configure DM pairing, allowlists, sandbox mode, and proper access controls for your local AI deployment.
Deploy your AI assistant to real messaging platforms without sending data to any third party cloud service.
Design an extensible assistant architecture. Add skills, configure personality, and set up proactive automation.
Deploy your OpenClaw and Docker setup to a VPS for always-on availability running 24 hours a day.

Rami Krispin has deployed fully offline AI systems in production environments.
Rami is a Senior Manager of Data Science and Engineering, Docker Captain, and LinkedIn Learning Instructor with deep expertise in building and deploying production AI systems. He guides you step by step from a blank terminal to a fully deployed private AI assistant — answering your questions live throughout the 4-hour session.
Developers who need an AI assistant that works completely without internet access.
Everything you need to know about fully offline AI model deployment.
Yes. Once your chosen open weight model is downloaded through Docker Model Runner, it runs entirely from your local disk. All inference happens on your CPU or GPU with no network calls to external services. You can disconnect from the internet completely and your local AI model continues to process requests normally.
You need to download Docker Desktop, the Docker Model Runner feature update, and your chosen open weight model while you have internet access. After that, everything runs offline. The instructor covers the download process and how to verify your setup is genuinely offline during the workshop.
No. The quality of responses from your local AI model is determined entirely by the model itself and your hardware — not by network connectivity. Running offline has no impact on response quality. The model has all its knowledge embedded in its parameters during training.
WhatsApp and Telegram message delivery requires internet connectivity — that is how the messaging platforms work. Your AI model processes messages offline on your machine, but the delivery of messages to and from WhatsApp or Telegram requires the messaging platform's servers. If you need fully offline operation, you would use OpenClaw channels that work on your local network only.
Running AI without internet is ideal for: processing confidential documents that must not leave your network, working in secure environments with restricted internet access, using AI on flights or in locations with poor connectivity, and maintaining a guarantee of data privacy for sensitive personal or professional information.
No special hardware is required. Docker Model Runner runs open weight models on standard developer hardware including laptops and desktops without dedicated GPUs. The instructor covers model selection appropriate for different hardware configurations during the workshop.
